A dominant Ozone FC Bengaluru cruised to a 2-0 win over South United FC in the BDFA Super Division League championship at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Tuesday.

After a goalless first half, the game sprung to life in the second with Ozone sealing the deal through strikes from midfielder Gagandeep Singh (59th minute) and forward Kapil Bhat (80th).

Ozone began brightly but wasted a few chances in the first 15 minutes. Their profligacy was highlighted by Kapil’s miss from the edge of the SUFC box early on. The forward was left unmarked but he failed to direct his effort at the target.

Soon after, striker Alocious M wasted a good chance. He evaded his marker by chesting the ball down from the midfield into the box, but couldn’t come up with the finishing touch.

In between, Ozone custodian Gunashekhar M was called into action following SUFC forward Jaison Jordan Vaz’s mazy run into the box. His effort, however, was tipped away, by the ‘keeper.

A comedy of errors from SUFC backline almost handed Ozone the lead. SUFC defender Nidhin Krishna, not realising his goalkeeper Nikhil C Barnard was out of his line, headed a pass back towards an unguarded net. Luckily, the ball spun away at the last moment.

Aaron kicked off the second half well for SUFC as he robbed the goalkeeper of the ball and turned towards the open goal but his shot was blocked by an onrushing defender.

A goalkeeping error finally broke the deadlock. A deflected pass went rolling down towards Barnard, who instead of collecting the ball, tried to push it away and ended up offering the ball in the path of Gagandeep, who slotted the ball into the net.

They doubled the lead after Alocious squared the ball into the path of Kapil, who put it into the net to hand SUFC their first defeat of the season.
