As widely rumoured, Asus has introduced its 2018 flagship smartphone for the year, the Zenfone 5Z at the ongoing MWC 2018 conference at Barcelona, Spain. The handset comes alongside its less-powerful variant, the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5 Lite. The Taiwanese tech firm is placing its Zenfone 5Z up against some of the most powerful smartphones launched few days ago such as the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Sony Xperia XZ2.
Asus Zenfone 5Z specifications
Asus Zenfone 5Z will be made available in Midnight Blue and Meteor Silver colour variant and has a completely new design as compared to its older series siblings. The smartphone boasts of a 6.2-inch FullHD+ IPS display with 19:9 aspect ratio, which is even more than that of the Galaxy S9. Interestingly it has a familiar iPhone X – like ‘Notch’ on top of the screen, which may be a deal breaker for many.
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, the device also has 8GB RAM and 256GB inbuilt storage.
The Android 8.0 Oreo (ZenUI 5.0) based handset features a 12MP Sony IMX 363 rear camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture. The secondary camera has a 120-degree wide angle lens with aperture f/2.2. At the front you get an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The front camera also supports Face Unlock feature. At the back you get a fingerprint sensor as well.
On the connectivity front, the Dual-SIM supporting smartphone includes GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v5.0, NFC and others. The firm has also used dual 5-magnet speakers to enhance the content viewing experience. Backed by a 3300mAh battery, the Zenfone 5Z supports ASUS BoostMaster and AI charging tech.
Asus Zenfone 5 specifications
The Zenfone 5 has nearly the same set of specifications as the Zenfone 5Z except for the processor, RAM and the storage. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, clubbed with 4GB RAM or 6GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage.
Asus Zenfone 5 Lite specifications
As for the least powerful Zenfone 5 Lite, the smartphone has a slightly smaller 6-inch FullHD+ IPS display with lesser screen-to-body ratio. Running Android Oreo based ZenUI 5.0, the smartphone comes in two variants based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor and Snapdragon 630 processor. The device also comes in two versions based on 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage.
There are two cameras at the back. While the primary 16MP sensor has f/2.2 aperture, the secondary camera has 80-degree FOV. At the front you get two more cameras, one with 20MP Sony IMX376 sensor and the other sporting an 8MP sensor with 120-degree wide lens. It has the same battery as the Zenfone 5 and the Zenfone 5Z.
At least two smartphones are confirmed to hit the Indian region. However there are no leads on its price or the exact launch date.
