The 23rd annual conference of the Karnataka Urology Association ‘KUACON-2018’ was inaugurated by Lokayukta of Karnataka Justice P Vishwanath Shetty, at A J Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Mangaluru on November 3. The conference, being held on November 2, 3 and 4, is jointly hosted by the Department of Urology, Andrology and Renal Transplantation, A J Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre and the Mangalore Urology Forum.
Inaugurating the conference, Lokayukta P Vishwanath Shetty said, ”The medical profession is highly respected by the public. Lawyers are heard and doctors are loved. Doctors have a role in nation building. As society contributes to the growth of professionals, they should give back to society. Every young person prefers to be a doctor because he/she feels like it is a profession where they can serve society. That is the impression of the young students and the public. Healthcare is an important issue faced by the country today. Large sections of people can’t afford the medical cost, especially at private hospitals and we need to address this”.
Following this, president of the Karnataka Urology Association Dr S B Patil briefed the gathering about the activities of the association.

Chairman of Laxmi Memorial Education Trust, Dr A J Shetty, dean of AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Dr Ashok Hegde, secretary of the Karnataka Urology Association, Nishchith D’Souza, organising chairman Dr Sunil P Shenoy, organising secretary Dr Prashanth Maarla K and Dr Preetham Sharma were present.
