Heavy to moderate rains lashed several parts of the state bringing respite from sweltering heat on Tuesday.
It rained for around 30 minutes in various regions of Chitradurga district towards the evening. Clouds gathered in the afternoon and skies opened up towards evening. The showers are expected to trigger agricultural activities in the drought-hit district. Farmers in this part of the state have been irrigating their coconut and arecanut plantations with private tankers. The neighbouring Davangere district too received heavy showers.
Kalaburagi, which sizzled at 45 degrees Celsius on Monday, received rains towards evening. People of the district were reeling under intense heat and were longing for a spell of rain.
Kalaburagi town, Chincholi, Shahbad, Jewargi received good rains. Lingsugur in Raichur district received hailstorm. Heavy rain coupled with gusty winds lashed Yalaburga and Kushtagi taluks of Koppal district.
Similarly, Vijayapura district received heavy rain for more than 30 minutes. Strong winds blew away roofs of dhabas on Sindgi road. Ameengad in Bagalkot district received rain for brief span of time.
Dambala in Gadag district received showers for about 30 minutes. The sudden rain caught people unawares.

Three farmers lost their lives due to lightning in several parts of the state on Tuesday. Chandrappa (56) was struck dead by lightning while he was working on his land in Anaburu Gollarhatty of Jagalur taluk, Davangere district. Dayananda Siddappa Shirahatti (41) of Dubalagundi in Humanbad taluk and Madappa Siddappa Borake (57) of Bhalki taluk in Bidar dsitrict were also struck dead by lightning.
